Since the Syrian revolution began, the Syrian people have been subjected to many war crimes and human rights violations. Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have witnessed these crimes. Their experiences are the basis of any process that aims at achieving justice and accountability in the future.

This report reveals how victims of human rights violations in Syria are left without justice and effective support. The report goes on to explore the victims’ views on justice.

Some main findings include:

  • Almost half of victims don’t receive any type of support
  • The other half receive scarce or insufficient support.
  • 65% of respondents were physically injured
  • 85% were traumatized
  • The majority of respondents want trials and punishments under the law. But in a country where the ruling elite have remained above the law for decades, some have lost confidence in the judicial system.

The report, “Conditions of victims and their attitudes towards accountability and reparations,” presents the results of a survey completed by 2,131 respondents who have either been subjected to human rights violations themselves or whose family member has been victimized.
