On The Brink Of Despair

“The ID of the missing person was handed over to his family in 2013 because he supposedly died, but two years later, his mother was able to visit him in Sednaya Prison after paying 1 million SYPs through an intermediary. She visited him a second time, but the third time she was told to pick up her son’s death certificate from Tishreen Military Hospital.”

The experience of this family seeking their missing person is similar to 344 other experiences of other families, which we tried to highlight and understand in our recently released report “On the Brink of Despair”.

This report focuses on the experiences of 344 families who have been made victims due to enforced disappearances by the Syrian regime. From the first moment of the disappearance and what they knew about its circumstances, through search and investigation operations on the whereabouts of the forcibly disappeared, to the latest of what they know about the fate of their disappeared relatives.

Despite all their efforts, families mostly get conflicting information, increasing their suffering.
