This survey report – part 1 of a 2-part series on discrimination against women in Syrian society – examines the extent of awareness among respondents of inequality between men and women in Syrian society. The report reveals men’s and women’s opinions on women’s rights to employment and education, differences in ability and competence between men and women, women’s ability and electability in leadership positions, and women’s legal rights and freedoms. Findings reveal notable public opposition to equal rights and opportunities for women, particularly among male respondents.
