Intervention Policies to Address Informal Settlements in Syria
Date: October 2024
The Day After has released a policy paper that provides an in-depth analysis of the informal settlements issue in Syria, from its roots to its worsening over time. Informal settlements present a significant challenge in Syria. In 2006, a former minister reported that informal settlements accounted for 50% of housing nationwide and up to 60% in the capital, Damascus. With the escalation of the crisis following the war, this issue has become even more complex, prompting The Day After team to work on this paper to shed light on this critical topic. The paper aims to offer potential solutions to address the issue and improve housing conditions in these areas, while providing recommendations and standards to enhance the living conditions of Syrians affected by this phenomenon.
