This Guide was prepared by Guernica 37 Chambers on the instruction of The Day After (TDA), with the support of Sweden’s government agency for development cooperation (Sida).

It is a practical toolkit for interacting with INTERPOL.

The Guide is built for the Syrian context in response to the INTERPOL’s October 2021 decision to give Syria access to their privileges within its information system.

The Guide is dedicated to Syrian human rights defenders, providing them with detailed and practical tips to act upon during urgent situations including arrest, detention, or when subjected to requests for extradition following INTERPOL Red Notices against them.

The Guide similarly addresses non-urgent situations, whereby it may be desirable to challenge an INTERPOL notice whilst not detained, to seek the removal of data retained by INTERPOL, or to challenge Syria’s presence within the organization.

The Guide was drafted by qualified lawyers with significant expertise in dealing with INTERPOL cases and representing individuals from different nationalities in the context of Red Notices. The Guide was further reviewed by the former Deputy Head of INTERPOL in the UK.
