A round table meeting was held, on Tuesday 12 April, between The Day After (TDA) Organization, and the Middle East Institute, to discuss the issue of Housing, Land, and Property (HLP) rights in Syria, and to review the papers issued by The Day After in this field.
The discussion focused on major violations in the issue of Housing, Land, and Property #HLP rights in recent years.
And how the executive and judicial authorities-led these violations, by issuing and implementing new laws, that contributed to the large-scale confiscation of property for thousands of Syrian citizens. This has created a significant obstacle to resolving Syria’s enormous displacement crisis, and it has undermined broader confidence in prospects for any future political settlement.
Speakers at this meeting were Mutasem Al- syoufi, the Executive Director of The Day After, and Charles Lister, the Director of Syria and Countering Terrorism & Extremism programs at the Middle East Institute.
The Day After has released a set of studies between 2019 and 2021 on the issue of property rights, available on the organization’s official website.
