Hunger Strike for Syria’s Detainees and Disappeared, in front of the Russian embassy in the center of Berlin

The academic researcher and founder of Stand with Syria Japan (SSJ), Mr. Icchiku Yamada, is going to be on 4 days hunger strike to demand immediate release and information of Syria’s 130,000+ detainees and disappeared.

The hunger strike will last for 4 days, 28th October – 31st October 2020, in front of the Russian Embassy in Berlin (address: Unter den Linden 63-65, 10117) due to Russia’s strong influence and involvement in the current political and military context in Syria. The strike is organised by Stand with Syria Japan (SSJ), in a partnership with The Day After (TDA).

The aim of the strike is to demand immediate release and justice for Syria’s detainees. However, the ultimate goal of this activity is to bring the world’s attention on this issue and to show solidarity with the victims of this extreme violence.

There will be Syrian detainees’ photographs displayed during the hunger strike with flowers and candles. Some members from Families for Freedom, Caesar Families Association, Jawab will participate in supporting Mr. Yamada’s hunger strike and demand justice.

People asked me why I want to do such a risky activity. For me, this scarifies, the 4 days hunger strike, is even a luxury. Because I will have an ending, but the suffering of detainees and their families have no end. I can’t be sorry enough that this is all I can do right now. Throughout my hunger strike, I want you to feel a fraction of agony of this unimaginable tragedy. I will dedicate this activity for Syria’s detainees, disappeared, and the martyrs of prisons, the bravest and beloved brothers and sisters. Let me allow to demand the justice they deserve, with all my heart, my soul, and my strength”. –Icchiku Yamada
