Communications and Advocacy Officer

 

 

Job Summary: TDA is looking for a Communications and Advocacy Officer to join our team in Turkey.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Communications Officer will be responsible for raising awareness of TDA values and principles among its partners, developing and disseminating information to the public, media, NGOs, and other key stakeholders.

The job holder will develop and deliver a communications and advocacy strategy with measurable outcomes, and ensure effective monitoring/evaluation and reporting.

Location and Duration: The position is based in Istanbul with frequent travel to Gaziantep. Contracting period is one year with the possibility of extension.

About TDA: The Day After Association is an independent, Syrian civil society organization working to support a democratic transition in Syria. In August 2012, TDA completed work on a comprehensive approach to managing the challenges of a post-Assad transition in Syria. The TDA report, “The Day After: Supporting a Democratic Transition in Syria”, provides a detailed framework of principles, goals, and recommendations from within the Syrian opposition for addressing challenges in six key fields: rule of law; transitional justice; security sector reform; constitutional design; electoral system design; and post-conflict social and economic reconstruction. TDA has since developed its focus from transition planning efforts to implementation of recommendations presented in the TDA report, opening its offices in Turkey to support this mission.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Communications/Media:
  • Develop and update TDAs communication strategy and ensure its adoption across programs.
  • Develop information material for different audiences through different media channels and work with Program Officers to mobilize and align communications, media and advocacy activities to engage partners.
  • Build strong and active relationships with the media and donors to increase TDAs profile in Syria and internationally.
  • Co-ordinate the production and publication of monthly e-newsletter and relevant web-material.
  • Monitor news relating to transition in Syria and media coverage of TDA’s work.
  • Contribute to the development of monthly and annual reports.

 

  1. Advocacy:
  • Develop of advocacy and communication materials as required for existing and upcoming programs;
  • Draft and disseminate TDAs position statements and lobbying letters on key advocacy issues, proactively and in response to events;
  • Assist in the identification of partners and sponsors to develop joint advocacy initiatives;
  • Strengthen advocacy partnerships and initiatives with local and international partners;
  • Represent TDA at meetings with partners as required, acting as key liaison with key stakeholders.
  • Design and implement advocacy events for TDA programs and publications

 

Qualifications:

  • A thorough understanding of the political developments related to Syria, including key actors;
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working for an NGO;
  • Prior experience in working with a communications team, including quality editing skills for internal and external audiences, is desirable;
  • Relevant university degree, preferably in Mass Communication, or Journalism, an additional post graduate qualification in a Communications related field will be an added advantage;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English and Arabic;
  • Experience in developing and implementing civil society campaigns, advocacy, and lobbying, at both local and international levels;
  • Good knowledge in Information Technology and use of various Internet tools and social media platforms.

Research and ME officer

Job Summary: TDA is looking for an exceptional Research and Monitoring and Evaluation officer to join our team in Turkey.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director the Officer is expected to support TDA in all research related activities through ensuring efficient implementation of research and data analysis processes and systems in the project.

The Officer will be in-charge of conducting various types of programmatic research through data analysis, questionnaire design, and provide technical input and support on the day-to-day works related to research and assessment. S/he will additionally assist in the establishment of an effective Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) system and coordinate the M&E activities.

The ideal candidate will have a solid experience in designing and implementing research and evaluation tools. Syrian Nationals are encouraged to apply.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Research responsibilities:
  •         Identify critical issues relating to justice and rule of law in Syria for analysis and research;
  •         Develop research tools to inform and enhance program strategies and build knowledge;
  •         Establish collaborations and partnerships with research institutions and resource centers;
  •         Systematically compile research information including preparing of background briefs and notes;
  •         Support in monitoring of conflict trends and developments.
  1. Monitoring and Evaluation responsibilities:
  •         Assist in setting indicators for monitoring and evaluation of implementation progress, outputs and outcomes of TDA programs;
  •         Assist in surveys, studies, and assessments;
  •         Develop guidelines, tools and reporting forms for monitoring of project implementation;
  •         Support TDA staff in applying M&E guidelines and tools and in preparing their monthly activity reports and their semi-annual and annual progress reports;
  •         Maintain a digital archiving system of all data and information related to M&E activities.

                                           

Qualifications:

  •             Thorough understanding of the political developments related to Syria, including key actors.
  •             Proven experience as a Research and/or M&E officer.
  •             Relevant university degree, MSc/MA is a plus
  •             Proven ability to work toward deadlines and achieve research requirements
  •             Ability to analyze information, evaluate options and plan strategically.
  •             Thorough understanding of project management techniques and methods.
  •             Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner, and to use innovative forms of communication.
  •             Commitment to and understanding of TDA’s aims, values and scope.
  •             Ability to work effectively in a team in order to allow the achievement of common goals and shared objectives.
  •             Awareness of relevant issues of security, confidentiality and research ethics.
  •             Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to gender and diversity.
  •             Fluency in Arabic and English, for oral and written communication.
